Pulaski Artist Puts Postcard Art On Slate
I recently visited the Deer Creek Campground and Flea Market in Pulaski looking for some new postcards. As you may have read here, I only found a handful of vintage postcards that met my criteria for collecting. But I also found a little bit of postcard art.
When I’m on a flea market or antique shop run, my eyes are doing a scan of each booth. I focus on one primary item, then usually on a secondary item. Then there’s a general, quicker scan of everything else in case there’s something I just can’t live without. On this run, my primary scan was for postcards, and my second scan was for Victor coffee mugs. I figured being this far from Victor, the chance of a mug would be low, and I was right.
But, that didn’t stop me from looking.
Since my eyes were seeking postcards and things shaped like postcards, one particular booth caught my attention.
Some Postcard Art
Kathy Tuskee does hand painted designs on slate tiles at one of the booths here. She had a whole bunch of different painted items like door hangings and even a serving tray, but she also was doing postcards! In fact, I’d guess that the majority of her items were postcard art.
Each one was a little different featuring puns and inspirational type messages like “Bee Happy”. Some had holiday themes. I thought the painted stamp was a particularly nice touch to round out the designs.
Kathy is set up in her booth at Deer Creek selling her hand painted postcards for $15.00 each. You might even catch her painting one! I have no artistic abilities in me at all, so it was real cool to watch her take a blank slate, and use her brush and paints to design a new piece right on the spot.
