New Cards From Oswego County
Now that warmer weather is here, flea market season has started back up. I had never been to the flea markets in Pulaski, so I woke up early on a Saturday morning and hit the road. A solo trip to Oswego County and back ended up being a great way to spend a day.
From Rochester, I took Route 104 most of the way, until jumping off on Route 3 to pass through Fulton. From there, I kind of hopped around a bit really enjoying the views of a few new roads I hadn’t traveled before.
Deer Creek Flea Market
I started at Deer Creek Flea Market and Campground on Route 3. This flea market is almost entirely within in a large metal barn. There are vendors along each side of the wall and a few in the middle, so I figured the best tactic was to walk up one end, and back the other. The one length of the barn had zero postcards at all, and it was looking the second side didn’t either. But then, on nearly the last table I looked, I discovered a couple shoeboxes of postcards!
Alas, most of them were blank. While those are cool and interesting, I’m really more intrigued by the personal messages included after they’re sent. After spending some time leafing through both boxes, I was able to find a handful. But, those few were all I was taking home from Deer Creek.
Angus Hill Antique and Flea Market
The Angus Hill Antique and Flea Market is over on Route 11 about 10 minutes from Deer Creek. This one was much, much bigger and was mostly inside a single barn, but had a few outdoor sheds, too. With everything from bottles to old books and even a set of Jarts, I figured there had to be some postcards somewhere.
It took some hunting, but I persisted.
Way back in one corner I discovered a single shoebox with a fantastic collection. Then I remembered how I don’t often carry cash, and had already spent some at Deer Creek. With the few bucks I had left in my wallet, I was able to walk away from Angus Hill with a nice little stack to keep me happy.
I’ll work on getting all the cards from today’s ramble through Oswego County up on the site soon!
